Summer 2025 Restoration Results

The restaurant industry in Spain experienced a summer of 2025 marked by both highs and lows.

For this reason, Delectatech has compiled the report “Summer 2025 Restaurant Results” based on data from more than 260,000 restaurants across Spain during the key summer months. This analysis offers a detailed snapshot of occupancy, average check size, and customer satisfaction, in a context marked by inflation and spending restraint.

Xavier Mallol, CEO and founder of Delectatech, presented the most relevant findings from the study during the highly anticipated Summer Webinar, held on September 30. The event featured leading industry figures such as Jose Antonio Latre Ballarín, an independent director and senior advisor to industrial and consumer goods companies, who, in an interview moderated by Patricia Fernández de Arroyabe, discussed his view on the sector’s current situation and expectations for 2026.

Below, we share some of the most important conclusions drawn from the “Summer 2025 Restaurant Results” analysis. Take note!

Let’s talk about the context

When discussing the summer of 2025, we examine two key aspects: tourism in Spain during this season and the global economic context. These factors are essential for understanding consumer behavior in the hospitality sector and assessing their purchasing power.

During the summer of 2025, Spain showed signs of moderate economic growth, with a slight year-over-year increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). According to the Bank of Spain, the Spanish economy maintained robust growth of around 2.6% for the entire year, thanks to solid domestic demand and a recovery in private consumption.

The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in August 2025 was 2.3%, very close to the levels in the Eurozone (2.2%) and the United States (2.5%). However, within the restaurant sector, the impact of inflation has been more noticeable for consumers, who are experiencing a growing increase in the cost of dining out. This fact, coupled with macroeconomic uncertainty, influences consumer decisions and acts as a brake on faster growth in the Food Service sector.

This context presents a situation in which the industry must rise to the challenge of maintaining business activity and profitability in the face of consumers who are increasingly cautious and price-sensitive.

Summer in the Spanish hospitality industry: 2025 vs. 2024

Despite high expectations at the start of the summer, the hospitality sector faced several challenges.

According to Delectatech’s report “Summer 2025 Restaurant Results” average occupancy rates at establishments were slightly lower, falling by 0.6% compared to the previous summer. On the other hand, the average check per diner continued to rise, with a moderate increase of 2.2%, although well below the sector’s inflation rate, which reached 4.3%. This data indicates that consumers are moderating their spending in response to rising prices.

As for customer satisfaction, it fell by 1.1%, indicating that consumers are becoming increasingly demanding and seeking greater value in the dining experience.

Domestic vs. International Diners

One of the report’s interesting findings is the comparison between the behavior of domestic diners and international tourists. The average check for international visitors rose by 3.3%, outpacing the 2% growth seen among domestic consumers. Furthermore, foreign customer satisfaction saw a smaller decline (8.05 vs. 7.57), indicating greater tolerance for price increases, although both groups show signs of fatigue in the face of constant cost increases.

Performance by region and profile of the winning establishment during the summer of 2025

According to the report, the areas with the best-performing establishments during the summer of 2025 were the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and the coastal regions of northern Spain. These regions, major draws for sun-and-beach tourism, have seen a slight decline in their performance rating compared to the previous summer but continue to stand out well above inland areas of the country.

Price remains a key factor in performance. Specifically, bars with an average check of less than €15 per guest recorded the highest occupancy rates, despite being the ones that increased their average check the most during the season.

Regarding customer satisfaction, the highest levels are found in restaurants with an average check exceeding €30 per diner, especially those offering meat and rice dishes, which are the best-performing culinary categories according to the analysis.

Trends and Performance of Summer Dining Offerings

The summer of 2025 has seen significant changes in the culinary preferences of Spanish diners and international tourists. Using our innovative relevance and satisfaction matrix, we have identified the most notable trends in food and beverage offerings.

  • “Tardeo” and brunch are solidifying their growth as trending dining occasions, with increases of +38% and +27% in online relevance, respectively. Concepts such as cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, and “coffee bakery”-style offerings are the main highlights of these occasions.
  • The fast-food, breakfast, and international food categories (pizza, ice cream, Argentine and Thai cuisine, matcha, pistachio, kombucha) are experiencing the biggest increases in popularity. Conversely, traditional mid-to-high-priced items, such as premium meats, seafood, wine, and beer, are losing ground.
  • In beverages, the popularity of coffee, tea, and cocktails is growing, while traditional alcoholic beverages such as wine and beer are declining in popularity
